17–18 July 2008
On 17th and 18th July 2010, the Society members co-organised and stewarded the Yeovil 150 Celebration event with the staff of the Yeovil Railway Centre at Yeovil Junction. It marked the 1860 opening of the line to Exeter.
On Saturday 17th July, artist David Shepherd CBE opened the event. Also present were the leader of South Somerset District Council, Councillor Ian Martin and Mrs Martin, along with the Mayor of Yeovil, Philip Chandler.
Locomotives King Edward I and the resident Pectin provided train rides within the centre. Both days were blessed with good weather and attendance.
Sunday saw a steam railtour from London Waterloo arrive with King Arthur class Sir Lamiel. The large crowds witnessed the turning of the loco on the turntable and servicing. The railtour departed for Weymouth hauled by diesel class 47760 with Sir Lamiel following later, light engine.
Many thanks to all our helpers. A good two days were enjoyed in celebration.
